Internal Ire

Poker faces aren't just reserved for card games. Struggling athletes often contain their emotions, whether to avoid giving their competitor an edge or, in more public arenas, to prevent photographers from immortalizing their misery in newspaper print. At the recent New York Yankees game against the Texas Rangers, Yankee pitcher Joba Chamberlain gave the world a rare glimpse into the aggravation pitchers must feel when their throws go awry. Chamberlain is a great pitcher, but he struggled terribly in the first two innings against the Rangers. For a moment early in the game, Chamberlain gave fans a glimpse of his internal ire. The moment was fleeting; although his performance problem persisted, he regained his composure, and it was back to the poker face.
