Last nights Experience Hendrix 2010 Tour, a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, at the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, was an awesome experience. Access was Ok. One song for each artist. The good thing was that we got to photograph from the pit. It's always better to photograph from the pit, because you get a chance to make more intimate pictures. Many artists tend to stick the photographers near the soundboard, which requires us to use a long lens like a 300mm or 400mm. In turn, all the photographs look the same.
The Joe Satriani and Johnny Lang with Brad Whitford photographs were made with a 24-70mm lens. I held the camera out, over the monitors, onto the stage to grab these shots.
One thing I learned last night - I need to start bringing ear plugs to concerts. My 40 year-old ears can't handle rock concerts anymore.
