It is not often that I am the subject of a shoot, since I typically am behind the camera making the pictures.
This time both happened. As the lead shooter for The Star-Ledger's magazine Inside Jersey, I had to make a portrait of five of the hottest chefs in the state for a feature story. And editors decided to do a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot. We decided to do it all at a quintessentially Jersey locale: A diner.
I found it a bit awkward being the subject of a shoot - not only challenging to "act natural," but also tough to watch those expletives, since I as mic'ed. But the videographer John O'Boyle was amazing - once the shoot really got underway, he was so unobtrustive, I halfway forgot the was there. John, thanks for making me look good.
